Remote Education Procedure
This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to students and Parents or Carers about what to expect from remote education as a result of a lockdown where pupils are required to remain at home.
The remote curriculum: what is taught to students at home
When being educated remotely lessons will be delivered using Microsoft Teams. Links to lessons will be uploaded onto the platform and everything else will be communicated with Class Dojo on class page, school website or email. Work set will follow the Curriculum for each subject.
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day.
- An average of 3 hours of teaching per day for Key Stage One (with less for younger pupils)
- An average of 4 hours for KS2

What should my child expect from immediate remote education on the first day or two of students being sent home?
If your child is sent home as a result of a class or whole school closure, work will be set daily on Microsoft Team/ Class Dojo.
If a teacher is unwell or unable to deliver a live lesson, there will be activities set for your child to complete.
Following the first few days of remote education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, in Music, where it is not practically possible to practice with instruments at home, activities will be set by the teacher which are adapted so that they are appropriate for remote learning.
How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?
We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take students between 3 and 4 hours per day. The lessons are structured to follow best practice and allow time for independent work (offline). The structure of lessons is outlined above and broadly reflects the structure used in school.
Accessing remote education
How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?
The primary platform for students to access all resources for remote learning is Microsoft teams. Classroom Dojo and school website will be used alongside for communication and signposting to different resources. Students and parents are familiar with this platform. From here, Teams link, Oak National Academy, BBC Bitesize resources will be linked as and when appropriate.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?
At present, we are not aware of any students who are unable to access online remote education. We have provided devices for those who need it; however, we recognise that some students may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those students to access remote education:
- Issue laptops to those without devices
- Print and post/ deliver resources to students who may require it
If you do not have access to online learning or experience difficulties then please contact the office.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We deliver live lessons using Microsoft teams. The school also uses a combination of the following approaches to teach students remotely:
- Live teaching (online lessons)
- Recorded teaching (e.g. Oak National Academy lessons, video/audio recordings made by teachers) printed paper packs produced by teachers (e.g. workbooks, worksheets)
- Reading books students have at home from school (guided reading books delivered home for whole class reading in KS2)
Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects areas ( English: Phonics Play, BugClub, Spelling Frames, Maths: Times Tables Rockstar, Mathletics etc) are also available. The login details are sent home with the children but if you are experiencing problems to log in please contact the class teacher.
Engagement and feedback
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
Students are expected to attend all lessons that are delivered remotely and complete all work set. Please read through the Pupil code of conduct for remote learning with your child (attached at the end of this document).
It is helpful to make sure your child sticks to a clear routine, following their usual timetable. Please support them in finding a quiet place to work and support us in ensuring they follow the guidance for Teams lessons.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Registers will be taken for each lesson and attendance will be monitored for online lessons. If your child is unwell or unable to attend the online lessons please report the absence as normal. If there are concerns with your child’s attendance, the class teacher, the learning support assistant or the school office will contact you. You might be contacted in one of the following ways:
- Email or phone call from the teacher/ learning support assistant or attendance officer (Mrs Whiteman)
- Email or phone call from a member of Senior Leadership Team
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individuals. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others.
Additional support for students with particular needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some students, for example some students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those students in the following ways:
- Regular (at least weekly) contact with parents/carers and students from SENDCO
- Work packs provided and distributed for individuals who require extra support
Extra support from a learning support assistant when the need arises and is identified by the SENDCO to support your child’s remote learning
Please be aware that expectations of behaviour in lessons online are exactly the same as expectations in school – there will be consequences for any disruption to learning.
There are some rules specific to online lessons:
- Please ensure your cameras are turned on when you join the call and that they remain on for the duration of the lesson.
- Please turn your microphones off until your teacher specifically asks you to give an answer.
- Use the chat function to ask appropriate learning questions and answers when directed by your teacher. This must not be used to chat with each other.
- Enjoy the lesson and take part!
If you have borrowed ICT equipment from school please be aware that the expectations for the use of the device is the same as if you were using it in school.
